Sketchbook - Midterm

My sketchbook for midterm. The contour line drawings and gradation drawings were done in this book.

Assignment 4.2 - Completed Photobook

Photobook Idea/Summary: Channeling the loneliness and isolation of the pandemic into a deeper understanding of the self and your individual identity. Focus is on self discovery and growth with an overarching melancholy tone, split into 3 acts describing different aspects of my experience.

I feel that my experience and feelings towards this year have been very abstract (as many people’s likely were) and as such I want to leave my photobook up to the interpretation of the viewer based on their individual experience. I wanted each photo to give off a type of emotion that could be connected with an overarching feeling to each act and then the book as a whole in a form of storytelling through impression.

Title Page
Act 1- Obscurity
The first act plunges itself into feelings of uncertainty and darkness.

Act 2- Reflection
The second act is the most directly personal - a reflection of the self.

Final Act - Solace
The final act is an act of acceptance, and in finding good in the bad.
(This painting is particularly meaningful to me in terms of the pandemic, as I started it in January when the virus had first appeared, and has been a work in progress since then.)
